A baptism, or christening as it’s sometimes called, is one of the most important experiences a Christian can go through, as it marks one’s identity as a Christian. Coming from the Greek word meaning “to wash,” this sacrament involves a water-based ritual and can be done at any point in a person’s life, though many people are baptized as babies or children.
Many churches may choose to perform the ritual in a variety of ways. Some churches dunk or tip a person in a body of water while others sprinkle or pour water on a person’s forehead.
This baptism or christening ritual purifies or initiates a person into the church. The sacrament signifies a person’s rebirth and acceptance, faith, and love for the Christian faith. In fact, many people truly believe that this important sacrament is the true beginning of a new life, one that revolves around Jesus and God.
