There's an old saying in the theater business: You either like Opera or hate it, but no matter what it affects you. The truth of this statement is phenomenal. When the lights go down, the symphony begins, and the first note or scale from the talented singers pierce the air, you're mesmerized. Be it English, Italian, German, or Austrian the emotion of the music and the players hit you smack dab in the heart. It's truly an experience everyone must have at least once in their life if not twice.
When you take the large scales out of an Opera, you have theater. A real person becoming a completely different character, in a different world, conveying the same emotions you're feeling as you hear them speak without the music to tell you how to feel. You are not merely observing the story, it's almost as if you're in the story. Depending on the way the play is done, you are in the story.
Opera, theater is an art of a bygone era that lives and breaths in the now. Opera, theatre is an experience not just for that moment, but for a lifetime.
